미래로 타임 슬립을 했다고 상상을 해 봅시다. 그러니까 다른 시대로 휙 날려갔는데, 원숭이가 세상을 지배하고 있는 거죠. 당신은 인간인데 야만족 취급을 받고 있습니다. 넌 왜 얼굴이 그 모양이니? 털을 좀 기르라니까? 물론 [혹성탈출] 처럼 [아날로그]의 세계에서 원숭이가 세상을 지배한다는 말은 아닙니다. 하지만 비슷한 면이 있지요. [혹성탈출]에서는 "이 똥이 미래였다니!" 가 반전 요소이자 결말이지만, [아날로그]에서는 "미래가 뭐 이래! 똥이야!" 가 시작입니다. '왜 미래가 이렇게 되었을까?' 를 탐구하는 미스테리물이라는 인상을 주고 만 것 같지만 또 그건 아니고요. 모든 일은 이미 수백 년 전에 결정적으로 끝이 나 있고, 플레이어는 다만 그 때 무슨 일이 있었는지 알 수 있을 따름입니다. 덤으로 AI와 교류할 기회는 있습니다만... 아니, 그게 메인이라고 할 분들이 눈에 선하군요.
[아날로그]는 과거(정확히 언제인지는 의도적으로 알려주지 않습니다)에 출항한 항성간 세대 우주선(generation ship, 장기간의 항해를 상정하고 선내에서 재생산 및 세대교체가 이루어질 수 있도록 건조한 우주선) 무궁화호에서 일어난 비극을 추적하는 게임입니다. 지구와의 연락은 두절되었고, 사람들은 모두 죽었으며, 남은 것은 불완전한 기록과 AI 뿐입니다. 게다가 AI조차 모든 일을 알고 있는 것은 아닙니다. 뭐, 아는 일이라고 다 말을 해 주는 것도 아니지요.
플레이어는 의뢰를 받아 기록을 조사하러 온 것 뿐이고, 조사는 무궁화호의 시스템에 무선 접속하여 이루어지므로(그리고 그 목적도 기록을 찾아서 다운로드해 가는 것입니다. 사실 게임의 거의 어느 시점에서나 터미널에 'download'를 입력하기만 하면 엔딩을 볼 수 있습니다. 의미 있는 엔딩은 아니지만...), 선내의 폐허를 탐험하다가 페이스 허거가 튀어나온다거나 하는 일이 벌어지지는 않습니다. 그러나 기록의 미로를 뒤지는 과정은 꽤나 호러블하고, 생명의 위기도 한 번 겪게 됩니다! 헤쳐 나가기가 어렵지는 않지만요.
기록 조사가 끝나면 플레이어는 조사한 기록을 챙겨 홀로 떠나고, 무궁화호는 다시 우주에 남겨지게 됩니다...

[아날로그]는 완전히 새롭고 독창적이라고 할 정도는 아니라도 여러 가지 의미에서 독특한 면이 있고, 나름 고개를 끄덕이게 되는(또는 내젓게 되는) 이야긱가 전개되며, 모에(!)한 캐릭터도 등장하고, 다 읽은 뒤에는 여운을 남기는 게임입니다.
읽기를 극도로 싫어하는 사람이 아니라면 추천. 그리고 특정 사회나 국가에 대한 공격이 아닌, 일반적인 차별과 혐오에 대한 예화로 읽으시기를 권장.

아래 내용이 다 스포일러는 아닙니다. 오히려 게임 트리비아에 가깝죠.
- 홈페이지에서 25세기에 발사되었다고 하는 무궁화호를 인트로에서는 '2000년대에 발사된 우주선' 으로 지칭하는데, 이건 오류가 아닙니다. 2000~2999년이라는 의미의 2000년대로 볼 수 있거든요. 플레이어 시점에서 현재는 적어도 3000년대입니다(무궁화호 발사일인 24세기의 어느 해 + 함선력 1년까지의 기간 + 함선력 후의 928년 또는 944년).
- *현애가 3조 밀리초동안 멍하게 있었던 적이 있다고 하는데, 이는 95년 24일 5시간 20분에 해당합니다(4년에 한 번씩 윤년이라는 전제 하에. 윤년이 없다면 47일이 됩니다).
- 게임을 시작하면 오버라이드 터미널이 등장하는데, 표시되는 날짜는 1970년 1월 1일입니다. 아시다시피 유닉스력(...) 원년이고, 구형 컴퓨터에서 메인보드 전지가 방전되고 전원이 분리되었다가 다시 연결되면 나오는 날짜이기도 합니다. 이런 디테일이 재미있죠.
- 오버라이드 터미널에 의하면 마지막 로그인 사용자는 김현애, 접속은 221432일 전입니다. 윤년규칙이 지구와 같다면(4년에 한 번 윤년, 단 매 00년은 윤년 아님, 또 단 매 400배수년은 윤년임) 606년하고도 96일입니다.
= 위 기간은 *현애의 말과는 약간 맞지 않습니다. *현애에 의하면 현재는 함선력 944년인데, 이는 종말이 있었던 322년으로부터 622년 후이기 때문이지요. 만약 함선력 1년이 지구의 1년보다 짧다면 계산이 맞을 수도 있습니다.
= 221432는 정확히 622*356이므로, 원작자가 622년에 365를 곱하려다 실수로 356을 곱했을 가능성도 배제할 수 없습니다! :)
- 현애가 2415년생이라는 말이 엔하위키에 있는데 영 근거를 찾을 수가 없네요. 어디서 본 것도 같은데...
- 현애의 부모는 통일한국 평양에서 만났다는 언급이 있으므로 우주선 출신이 아닙니다. 따라서 현애는 우주선 2세대입니다.
- 현애는 13세때 냉동수면에 들어가게 되는데, 이 때부터 함선력 1년까지의 기간이 얼마나 되는지는 고의적으로 누락되어 있습니다.
- 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 넣어야 하는 터미널 명령어는 미리 넣어둘 수 있습니다. 단 reactor disable은 "비상 상황에서만 가능합니다" 라고 나오면서 실행이 되지 않습니다.
- decrypt 명령으로 풀어야 하는 데이터는 block3과 block7인데, 스토리상 등장할 때가 안 되었으면 decrypt를 해도 볼 수 없습니다. 이 또한 반드시 오류라고 볼 수는 없는데, 설정상 AI가 기록을 꺼내서 인터페이스에 보여줘야 비로소 플레이어가 그 기록을 읽을 수 있게 되기 때문입니다.
- 스미스 가의 족보는 *뮤트가 꺼내줄 수도 있고(이때의 코드는 11-BB01) *현애가 꺼내줄 수도 있습니다(이때의 코드는 11-AB04). 누가 꺼내주든 첫 페이지는 동일하나, *뮤트가 꺼내준 경우에는 총 3페이지이고 *현애가 꺼내준 경우 첫 페이지밖에 없습니다.
- 원작자도 한국어와 일본어를 제법 혼동하고 있습니다. 등장인물 중 "하나"는 사실 일본 이름이지요(한국어 번역 당시 원작자는 한자 이름으로 "花"를 제안했다고 하는데 명백한 일본어식 읽기가 됩니다).
= 다만 "스미스"의 한자 표기인 "斯密(사밀)"은 일본어와 한국어를 혼동한 것으로 보기는 좀 애매하고, 굳이 연원을 따지자면 중국산 음차입니다.
- 등장인물의 한자 이름은 한국어판을 만들면서 번역진이 만들어 붙였다고 합니다. 대단! 참고로 한자 이름이 나오는 '이름에 관한 주석' 페이지는, 영어판에서는 한국어 발음에 관한 페이지입니다.
- 다만, 예를 들어 "희" 자는 "姫" 가 아닌 "姬"로 표기되어 있는 등, 한국어 한자 코드가 아닌 중국어 번자체 코드를 쓴 것 같습니다. 일부러인지 아닌지 궁금하긴 한데, 잔약신부의 일기에서도 '한자 비슷한 글자를 쓰고 있다'는 식의 묘사가 되어 있는 걸로 봐서는 다른 느낌을 주려고 일부러 한 것이다에 한 표.
- 한국어 번역 관련으로 의문이 있는 부분 하나. 영어판에서는 "The Pale Bride"가 "(to) my sick daughter"라는 제목을 잘못 해석한 것이라는 내용인데, 한국어판에서는 "孱弱新婦(잔약신부)"라고 한자를 제시해주고 있습니다. 그런데 "新婦"라고 하면 이게 "딸"이 될 수가 있나, 뭐 그런 의문. '최소한 내 이름을 불러줘!' 의 해당 부분을 약간 수정했으면 어떨까도 싶고... 뭐, 수정을 하면 어떻게 할 것이냐 하는 문제도 있지요.
- 하렘 루트로 가기 위해서는 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 반드시 *현애를 core1으로 copy 한 뒤 전력을 끊어야 한다고 생각하는 경우가 있는데, 그렇지 않습니다. 7-EUX25를 *뮤트에게 보여준 상황에서 *현애가 core1에 복사되어 있지 않은 경우, *뮤트는 아직 전원을 끊은지 얼마 안 되었으니 데이터가 남아있을 거라면서 터미널에서 복사하라는 대사를 합니다. 그리고 해 보면 실제로 됩니다(24시간을 방치하고 나서 복사해보는 잉여활동도 해 볼 수 있겠으나... 안 해 봤습니다).
- 원자로 과열 시퀀스 초입때 보면 함선 기능 중 life_support만 꺼져 있지요. 뭐.. 622년 또는 608년 동안 꺼져 있었던 거겠죠...
- 하렘 루트 막판이 좀 뜬금없다고 생각하는 분들이 있는데, 따져보면 그렇게까지 뜬금없는 건 아닙니다.
= 첫째로 *뮤트와 *현애가 갑자기 친해지는 것처럼 생각될 수 있는데, *뮤트가 *현애를 데리러 간 사이에 플레이어는 빼놓고 둘이서 이야기를 꽤 많이 한 것으로 보입니다. 그렇다면 그렇게까지 갑작스럽다고 할건 아니지요. 생략된 것은 아쉽지만.
= 둘째로 무궁화호의 보안 AI인 *뮤트가 배를 너무 쉽게 버리는 것 아니냐는 의견이 있을 수 있지만, 거기에도 충분한 이유가 있습니다. 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 전원을 끊다가 차마 core2의 전원을 끊지 못해서 터미널을 나가서 *뮤트와 대화를 한 적이 있는데, 그 때 *뮤트는 *현애가 미친년이긴 하지만 동시에 무궁화호의 마지막 생존자라며 *현애를 여유 공간에 복사하면 된다고 알려줍니다. 더 이상은 한 명도 죽지 않게 하겠다면서요. 결국 *뮤트는 무궁화호에 대한 책임감 이상으로 그 승객에 대한 책임감이 강한 것으로 보입니다. 그렇다면 마지막 승객이 배를 떠날 때 그 승객을 따르는 것도 이해할 만 하지요.
- 좀 아쉬운 점 하나. 검색창에 기록 코드를 넣으면 바로 기록을 꺼낼 수 있는데(decrypt도 필요 없습니다), 이런 식으로 기록을 꺼내서 AI에게 보여주는 경우 반응이 제대로 나오지 않습니다. 예를 들어, 좀 잔인한 짓이긴 하지만, 게임 초입에서 7-EUX25를 꺼내서 *현애에게 보여준 적이 있습니다. 그런데 고개를 돌리거나 정색하면서 언급을 회피하거나 할 줄 알았지만 틀에 박힌 "왜 보여주시는지 모르겠는데요? 제가 알기로는 이 기록에 관련된 기록은 없거든요..." 뭐 이런 반응만 얻었습니다. 검색창 같은 외법을 구현해 놨으면 그에 대비한 스크립트도 좀 있었으면 좋았을 것을... 그런 아쉬움입니다.
- 1주차에는 2번 엔딩 아니면 사람도 아니라고 하는 주장(...)이 있는데... 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 원자로 차단 후 열 배출 방법(공기배출)을 *뮤트는 가르쳐주지만 *현애는 가르쳐주지 못합니다. 공략 보고 하는 거 아니면 1주차는 *뮤트 루트을 타야 엔딩을 볼 수 있을 가능성이 높지 않나 뭐 그런 생각.
- 게임 시작 시점에 터미널에서 바로 su 명령을 쓰는 경우 에러가 납니다. *현애와 인사하고 바로 다시 터미널로 나오면 su 명령을 쓸 수 있게 됩니다. 즉 *뮤트를 *현애보다 먼저 만나는 것은 불가능하다는 얘기.
- 인터넷 검색 중에 정상적인 대화로 엔딩 5가 가능하다는 말을 딱 한 번 봤는데, 제 계산으로는 안 될거 같거든요. 궁금합니다...
= 엔딩 5는 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 *뮤트 루트를 타야 하는데, 엔딩 5를 위해 *뮤트에게 보여줘야 하는 기록 7-EUX25는 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 *현애 루트를 타야 막판에 열리기 때문입니다.
- 스미스 상민을 보면 사나이 아랫도리는 언급하는 게 아니라면서 호탕하게 놀곤 하셨던 모 각하가 떠올라서 기분이 좀 껄쩍지근합니다. 이런 캐릭터가 나온다는 점이 이 게임의 날카로운 점 중 하나인 듯.
- *뮤트가 제법 많은 권한을 갖고 있다는 점을 고려하면 여성형이라는 건 좀 이상하지요. 그래도 (1) 함선력 전에 만들어진 AI라면 여성형 AI가 중요한 역할을 맡아도 이상할 것은 없다, (2) 여자 상대라면 남자들 입이 더 가벼워질 수도 있을테니 풍문 수집용으로는 합목적적일 수 있다, (3) 남자가 *뮤트 대사를 하면 엄청나게 재수없을 것이다(...) 등, 최소한의 핑계는 있는 것 같습니다.

= 둘째로 무궁화호의 보안 AI인 *뮤트가 배를 너무 쉽게 버리는 것 아니냐는 의견이 있을 수 있지만, 거기에도 충분한 이유가 있습니다. 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 전원을 끊다가 차마 core2의 전원을 끊지 못해서 터미널을 나가서 *뮤트와 대화를 한 적이 있는데, 그 때 *뮤트는 *현애가 미친년이긴 하지만 동시에 무궁화호의 마지막 생존자라며 *현애를 여유 공간에 복사하면 된다고 알려줍니다. 더 이상은 한 명도 죽지 않게 하겠다면서요. 결국 *뮤트는 무궁화호에 대한 책임감 이상으로 그 승객에 대한 책임감이 강한 것으로 보입니다. 그렇다면 마지막 승객이 배를 떠날 때 그 승객을 따르는 것도 이해할 만 하지요.
- 좀 아쉬운 점 하나. 검색창에 기록 코드를 넣으면 바로 기록을 꺼낼 수 있는데(decrypt도 필요 없습니다), 이런 식으로 기록을 꺼내서 AI에게 보여주는 경우 반응이 제대로 나오지 않습니다. 예를 들어, 좀 잔인한 짓이긴 하지만, 게임 초입에서 7-EUX25를 꺼내서 *현애에게 보여준 적이 있습니다. 그런데 고개를 돌리거나 정색하면서 언급을 회피하거나 할 줄 알았지만 틀에 박힌 "왜 보여주시는지 모르겠는데요? 제가 알기로는 이 기록에 관련된 기록은 없거든요..." 뭐 이런 반응만 얻었습니다. 검색창 같은 외법을 구현해 놨으면 그에 대비한 스크립트도 좀 있었으면 좋았을 것을... 그런 아쉬움입니다.
- 1주차에는 2번 엔딩 아니면 사람도 아니라고 하는 주장(...)이 있는데... 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 원자로 차단 후 열 배출 방법(공기배출)을 *뮤트는 가르쳐주지만 *현애는 가르쳐주지 못합니다. 공략 보고 하는 거 아니면 1주차는 *뮤트 루트을 타야 엔딩을 볼 수 있을 가능성이 높지 않나 뭐 그런 생각.
- 게임 시작 시점에 터미널에서 바로 su 명령을 쓰는 경우 에러가 납니다. *현애와 인사하고 바로 다시 터미널로 나오면 su 명령을 쓸 수 있게 됩니다. 즉 *뮤트를 *현애보다 먼저 만나는 것은 불가능하다는 얘기.
- 인터넷 검색 중에 정상적인 대화로 엔딩 5가 가능하다는 말을 딱 한 번 봤는데, 제 계산으로는 안 될거 같거든요. 궁금합니다...
= 엔딩 5는 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 *뮤트 루트를 타야 하는데, 엔딩 5를 위해 *뮤트에게 보여줘야 하는 기록 7-EUX25는 원자로 과열 시퀀스에서 *현애 루트를 타야 막판에 열리기 때문입니다.
- 스미스 상민을 보면 사나이 아랫도리는 언급하는 게 아니라면서 호탕하게 놀곤 하셨던 모 각하가 떠올라서 기분이 좀 껄쩍지근합니다. 이런 캐릭터가 나온다는 점이 이 게임의 날카로운 점 중 하나인 듯.
